LOMBARD – Rich Moraga, an eighth-grader at St. Pius X School, will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition in Washington, D.C. later this month. He won the DuPage County Spelling Bee in Wheaton in February, which qualified him to advance to the national round.

During the regional competition, he faced off against 25 other students from DuPage County and won with the word "reprehensible."

The national competition takes place from May 28 to May 30.

Rich will graduate from St. Pius X this spring and in the fall, he will attend Fenwick High School in Oak Park. Although he is an accomplished speller, he said his favorite subjects are history and algebra.
