Organizers expect thousands at Annie Ryan 5K

ELMHURST – Thousands of runners and walkers are expected to participate in the 5K Annie Ryan Fun Run that kicks off its 14th race at York Road and South Street in Elmhurst on Sunday.

The youngest of former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan and his wife, Marie's, six children, Annie Ryan died in 1997 of a brain tumor. The yearly Elmhurst run raises awareness about brain tumors as well as funds for medical advancements to combat them.

All proceeds go directly to the Midwest Children's Brain Tumor Center.

The 5K starts at 9 a.m. sharp and the kids' one-mile dash follows at 9:45 a.m.

For registration and more information, visit annierun.com. Pre-registration for the 5K is $25; day of event registration is $30.

The kids' one-mile dash costs $15 and is open to those in kindergarten through eighth grade. Registration also is available through Friday at The Runner's Soul, 124 N. York St., Elmhurst.
