LOMBARD – Recently, Meals on Wheels volunteer Gerry Blidy provided more than a meal to a Naperville senior.

When she arrived at the man's apartment door to drop off his daily meal, she heard him calling for help. Building maintenance was notified and when the door was opened, rescuers found the man on the floor. He had fallen while getting dressed in the morning and laid on the floor for nearly five hours until Blidy arrived.

The man was safe and Blidy was recognized for her efforts with a certificate.

Meals on Wheels is a program coordinated by the DuPage Senior Citizens Council that delivers meals and conducts well-being checks on seniors throughout the county.
