WESTMONT – The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad crossing at Cass Avenue in Westmont will be closing due to construction beginning this week.

The construction is expected to begin Thursday, closing off vehicle and pedestrian traffic for about eight days. Commuter trains are expected to continue as usual during the construction.

Throughout the eight days, there will be a detour for motorists set up at Fairview Avenue in Downers Grove, although pedestrians will still be able to cross the tracks in downtown Westmont adjacent to the Westmont Train Station.

In light of the construction, the Westmont Police and Fire departments are working to develop plans to provide emergency services on both sides of the track as well as safe paths for students who need to cross the tracks walking to and from school.
