Countryside police host Drug Take Back Day

Published: Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 2:16 p.m. CDT

COUNTRYSIDE – Countryside Police will host a Drug Take Back Day Oct. 26 in an effort to prevent drug abuse and theft.

The public can bring expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs to the police department, located at 5550 East Ave., for disposal. The service is free, and no questions are asked.

The initiative is part of a nationwide Drug Enforcement Administration program that collected more than 742,000 pounds of prescription drugs from 5,800 sites in April.

Studies show that the majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, Countryside police said in a news release.
