Glenbard West senior Will Hanson made his first appearance at the IHSA state golf tournament this past weekend.

He represented the Hilltoppers in fine fashion, producing a two-day score of 155, which left the senior in a tie for 27th place in Class 3A.

He shot a round of 78 on Friday, which included a pair of birdies, and then followed that up with a 77 on Saturday.

Hanson, the Glen Ellyn Bank & Trust Athlete of the Week, spoke with Suburban Life sports reporter Scott Schmid about his weekend.

Were you pretty happy with how you played at the state meet?

A couple bounces here and there and I would have been a little closer to the top of the group. I played well, I have nothing to really complain about.

I didn’t blow up at any point. I had a lot of fun out there.

What was the state experience like?

It was really cool, really exciting. You’ve got all the best players in the state in one place. The competition is awesome and you really don’t see that in many of the other events.

How would you sum up your season?

I was very pleased. I don’t really feel like I had any terrible rounds this year.

I was steady and I was able to take all-conference, which was good. Overall, it was a great season and a great finish.

What’s the next step for you?

I’m still in the process of figuring out what I’m going to do but I know I want to play in college. I’m just sorting all of that out.
