Dominick's to close all unsold locations in Chicago area by Dec. 28

Published: Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 7:16 p.m. CDT

The dozens of Dominick's grocery stores in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs could be closed or sold by Dec. 28, according to a spokesperson from the chain's parent company Safeway.

Teena Massingill, Safeway's director of corporate public affairs confirmed reports of the date via email, saying that the store's goal remains to find purchasers for current Dominick's locations as possible.

The grocery store announced plans to exit the Chicago area market several weeks ago. There have been no official reports as to how many jobs may be lost in the event that Safeway is unable to sell a number of its stores.
