RIVERSIDE – A 16-year-old Brookfield boy was charged with aggravated battery after allegedly attempting to choke a substitute teacher trying to prevent a fight Nov. 20 at Riverside Brookfield High School.

The boy initially was separated from another student after an argument, but as he walked to the front of the classroom, he started to push desks and grunt before approaching the other student. As the teacher tried to separate the two, the boy wrapped his hands around the teacher’s throat.

The crime is an automatic felony, police said, as the victim was a teacher and it occurred on school property.
