Glen Ellyn D-41 to post signs prohibiting concealed carry at district buildings

Published: Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 4:14 p.m. CDT

GLEN ELLYN – During winter break, Glen Ellyn School District 41 will post signs at its buildings to let guests know that firearms will continue to be prohibited at its properties, in light of the Firearm Concealed Carry Act passed this summer by the Illinois General Assembly, according to a district email.

The act allows licensed individuals to carry concealed firearms; however, firearms will continue to be prohibited on District 41 buildings and grounds.

All school districts are required to display a sign provided by the state to make it clear firearms may not be brought onto their premises.

District 41 will place these signs by the main entrances of its buildings. Signs also will be displayed at some secondary entrances, as well as by the stairs of portable units used at the schools.

In an email to parents, the district suggested parents may want to speak with their children about the signs.
