ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Fire Department responded to call for a garage fire in the 200 block of Glade Avenue between 9 and 10 p.m. Saturday.

"Luckily the [resident] had just returned home," said Deputy Fire Chief Bill Anaszewicz.

A neighbor knocked on the resident's apartment door because the detached garage was on fire.

In addition to the Elmhurst Fire Department, the Northlake and the Bensenville fire protection districts responded. They were able to extinguish the fire without injuries, but the cause of the fire is still undetermined.

"The garage was total loss, and there were two cars inside," Anaszewicz said.

Anaszewicz said the fire is still under investigation and estimated the total damage to be around $60,000.
