York’s girls basketball team earned Elmhurst bragging rights by defeating IC Catholic 53-32 on Jan. 3. A balanced scoring effort was key to York’s success: 10 different Dukes scored and none of them scored in double figures.

Juniors Kathryn Wheeler and Jamie Kovatchis each scored eight points for York. Jess Bianchi, Sarah Milkowski and Kelly Polte scored seven a piece.

York next plays Saturday against Downers Grove North, which is undefeated in the West Suburban Silver. IC returns to conference play at Aurora Christian tonight.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Timothy Christian

The Trojans were scheduled to play Illiana Christian on Tuesday, but the cold weather in the area forced the game to be postponed. The freshmen, sophomore and varsity games at Illiana have been rescheduled for Jan. 18. Timothy’s next game is Jan. 17 at Fenton, which means the Trojans will have 17 off days in between games since last playing Dec. 30.

IC Catholic

After concluding play at their own holiday tournament with a 3-1 record on Dec. 30, the Knights return to action at 7:30 p.m. tonight when they host Chicago Christian.

BOYS SWIMMING

York

The Dukes lost to Lincoln-Way Central 109-74 in a dual meet Jan. 3.
