Whole Foods announced that it will move into the vacant Dominick's at St. Charles Road and Route 83 in Elmhurst.

ELMHURST – After months of speculation, Whole Foods will purchase the former Dominick's location at Route 83 and St. Charles Road.

Mayor Steve Morley confirmed Monday what he called "the worst kept secret in Elmhurst," announcing Whole Foods will move to Elmhurst.

"I think that's as official as it's going to get until they actually remodel the store and put the sign on the front," Morley said.

He told the public at Monday's City Council meeting that he received an email from Whole Foods at 3 p.m. that day stating they would be announcing their move to Elmhurst.

According to a press release from Whole Foods, the new store at 215 S. Route 83, will open in 2015. The company plans to spend the next year remodeling the location to reflect Elmhurst and Whole Foods.

The Elmhurst Dominick's closed its doors Dec. 28 as part of the grocery chain's mass exodus from the Chicago area late last year.
