York students win first place at region math competition

ELMHURST – York High School Math Team students placed first in four categories at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional competition.

York High School hosted the contest consisting of 10 areas of competition Feb. 22.

Students could compete in a maximum of three competitions each.

Senior Travis Parr took first place in precalculus and Orals. Junior Kanchi Shah won first place in algebra II, and freshman Lucas Gough came in first in the geometry competition.

The 2014 math team state finals are May 3 at University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
