Cadence Health is in talks with Northwestern Memorial HealthCare to become one group, the organizations announced March 13 in a joint news release.

Officials at the health care systems signed a letter of intent to enter a period of exclusive discussion for a possible merger, the release stated.

Cadence Health is the parent of Delnor Hospital in Geneva and Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Northwestern Memorial HealthCare is parent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.

Discussions will continue during the next several months and will be subject to regulatory approval by the state, said Chris King, Cadence Health senior manager of public relations.

All four hospitals would remain open under any merger, and officials do not anticipate any staff reductions as a result of the partnership, King said.

“We believe we would need more talent in the future, not less,” he said.

The new health system would include the hospitals as well as additional primary and specialty care offered at physician’s offices throughout the western suburbs, King said.

The new health system will operate under the Northwestern Medicine brand name, and its governance will include equal representation from Cadence and Northwestern, according to the release.
