WESTERN SPRINGS – The Western Springs Police Department responded to a robbery call at 3:53 p.m. March 17 at First Merit Bank, 5450 Wolf Road.

Police described the suspect as a white male between 40 and 50 years old, about 6-feet-tall, and wearing a tan baseball hat, dark sunglasses, blue jeans and a brown jacket.

Police said the suspect showed a note to a bank employee that implied he had a weapon, although no weapon was displayed. The suspect then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash in a black bag.

Several law enforcement officers from other agencies also assisted with a search for the suspect, but he was not found.

No bank employees were injured during the robbery and the investigation in ongoing, according to police.

Special Agent Joan Hyde, with the FBI Chicago office, said they believe the man also robbed First Merit Bank, 700 W. North Avenue, at 1:14 p.m. March 17, based on photos.
