Firefighters battle kitchen blaze in Wheaton townhouse

WHEATON – The Wheaton Fire Department responded to a blaze early Thursday morning in a townhouse kitchen, according to a city news release.

The department was dispatched at about 7:45 a.m. to 1313 E. Loughborough Court, the release said.

The affected area and three surrounding units were occupied at the time of the fire, but all residents were evacuated safely, according to the release. The blaze was brought under control quickly and the resident whose kitchen was on fire was treated and released on the scene for a minor injury.

Investigations are ongoing, the release said. No damage estimates were immediately available after the incident. The unit where the fire occurred was deemed uninhabitable, but the remaining units were returned to their owners.
