Prep roundup: Hinsdale Central softball enjoys hit parade

Hinsdale Central's softball team enjoyed a hit parade against Proviso West in between shutout losses against Downers Grove North and Glenbard West. The Red Devils won 20-1 against Proviso on May 9.

Annie Bruns was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, grand slam, eight RBIs and three runs scored. Paige Bareck went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Annemarie Tracey allowed just one hit to earn the pitching win.

SOFTBALL

Hinsdale South

Mackenzie Kern and Holli Jones each drove in a run and the Hornets laced 10 hits, but Glenbard North won the second leg of Saturday's doubleheader 6-2. Morgan Majcen and Abby Rees each scored a run.

BASEBALL

Hinsdale Central

The Red Devils split Saturday's doubleheader against Oak Park-River Forest, falling 2-1 before winning 8-5.

Ryan Haff doubled and drove in three runs, and Mike Johnson laced two doubles and had two RBIs. Jacob White and Ben Chapman scored two runs apiece in the victory.

Charlie Banke worked three innings and earned the win on the mound.

Nick Senicka allowed just four hits in the opener, but Central managed just three hits, including Johnson's RBI single.

Hinsdale South

The Hornets swept their West Suburban Gold series against Willowbrook, capped by Monday's 6-4 victory.

Mike Mullaney was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs Monday to help Eric Benson earn the pitching win.

South won both ends of Saturday's doubleheader against the Warriors 2-0. Jon Uba and Mullaney won on the mound.

BADMINTON

Hinsdale Central

The Red Devils swept the top two spots in both singles and doubles play as they won the title at their own sectional tournament, scoring 18 points to finish ahead of Glenbard South.

Michelle Fu and Ryan Ricker went 1-2 in the singles draw while Julia Huang and Alex Ritter finished ahead of Amy Wey and Samantha McClary in doubles play.

Hinsdale South

Hosting their own sectional tournament, the Hornets took home top honors by scoring 16 points.

Judy Yang won the singles bracket while the doubles tandems of Madisen Curin and Sarah Prosia and Samantha Buddig and Jenna Stobbe finished 1-2.

BOYS GYMNASTICS

Hinsdale Central

Alex Gelz, Ryan Leahy and Jack Schmidt all earned automatic state meet berths at the Lyons Township sectional.

Leahy was fourth on vault (8.950) and Schmidt fourth on parallel bars (8.50), while Gelz was fifth on rings (8.60), pommel horse (7.90) and high bar (7.40).

After the sectional, Leahy earned an at-large state meet spot in the all-around. Schmidt was an at-large qualifier on floor and Chris Kujalowicz was at-large on high bar.

Hinsdale South

Adrian Siaw earned a pair automatic state meet berths and Ryan Alsip earned one at the Lyons Township sectional meet.

Siaw was third on floor (9.40) and fifth on vault (8.90) while Alsip was fourth on high bar (7.70)

Alsip later earned an at-large state meet spot in the all-around while Dominic Colant punched his ticket with an at-large berth on high bar.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hinsdale South

The Hornets won two games via shutout on Saturday, defeating Sandburg 3-0 and Lemont 2-0 as part of Lemont's tournament.

Mary Claire Ladd scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute of Tuesday's 1-0 win against Morton.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Hinsdale Central

Alexa Haff won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:14.67, and Anna Zaher ran to second in the 1,600 with a mark of 5:02.68 at the West Suburban Silver meet.

Lauren Mack was second in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 5.5 inches.

Hinsdale South

The 4x800-meter relay team of Tori Salazar, Sarah Leganski, Ema Slajute and Lara Barranco clocked a winning time of 10:09.83 at the West Suburban Gold meet.

Maya Thompson won the triple jump (35 feet, 8.5 inches) and was second in the long jump (16-9.75).

Games to watch

BADMINTON: Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South are both in the hunt for the title at the state tournament, which begins at 9:45 a.m. today and continues Saturday at Eastern Illinois.

SOFTBALL: Hinsdale Central gets prepped for the playoffs with today's 4:30 p.m. home game against a tough Downers Grove North team.

BOYS LACROSSE: The rivalry transfers over to the lacrosse field as Hinsdale Central travels to Lyons Township's south campus for a game at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.
