T.J. Case delivers a pitch against Leyden on May 2. After dealing with injuries last season, Case has been stellar on the mound for the Warriors this spring.

Every spring offers a chance for baseball and softball players to impact their teams more than they ever have before. Here are a few of the players having breakout seasons on the diamond for Addison Trail, Glenbard East, IC Catholic, Montini and Willowbrook.

T.J. Case

School: Willowbrook

Class: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: Case had to deal with arm issues last year and that limited his production as a junior. This year he has only allowed one earned run and is living up to the expectations of a Division I pitcher.

Anthony Esterly

School: Glenbard East

Class: Senior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: Esterly has been one of the Rams' top two pitchers, along with fellow senior Tyler Behrendt. His last start was a quality effort against Lake Park where he allowed just one unearned run in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Sean Frontzak

School: Montini

Class: Junior

Position: Pitcher

Impact: Frontzak had a respectable 3.15 ERA as a sophomore last year, but was limited to just 20 innings on the mound as he adjusted to varsity competition.

This season he has been one of the Broncos' strong top three pitchers, along with older brother Eric Frontzak and senior Tyler Quick, and helped Montini stay in the hunt for the title in the competitive Suburban Christian Blue conference.

Christian Grabowski

School: Addison Trail

Class: Junior

Position: First base

Impact: After being a key player on the football team in the fall, Grabowski has carved a big role on the diamond as well. He has been one of the top hitters on the team, sliding right into the top part of the Blazers' batting order.

Tacia Mesina

School: Montini

Class: Junior

Position: Infield/outfield

Impact: Though Mesina doesn't bat high in the Broncos' loaded batting order, she has been one of the team's top hitters throughout the season. Through Wednesday she was hitting a team-best .410 out of the eighth spot in the lineup.

Sean Sutton

School: IC Catholic

Class: Senior

Position: Pitcher/shortstop

Impact: Sutton has proven to be a quality No. 2 starter behind ace Clark Brinkman. So far this season, Sutton has a 6-1 record and a 2.10 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 30 innings of work for the Knights.

Name: Marissa West

School: Glenbard East

Class: Sophomore

Position: Second base

Impact: West has been a key hitter in the Glenbard East lineup in her first year on varsity.

She has right in at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, has played solid infield defense and appears to be part of a solid young core for the Rams.
