ADDISON – Shane Cole, a guidance counselor at Addison Trail High School, has been selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by The National Society of High School Scholars.

Cole was nominated by senior Ekaterin Gjonaj for his outstanding dedication and commitment to Addison Trail. Gjonaj, a student member of the society, had the opportunity to nominate an educator who made a significant contribution to her academic career, according to a District 88 newsletter.

The Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction award recognizes role models who have made a lasting difference in the lives of students by encouraging them to strive for excellence.

Cole was critical in helping Gjonaj earn an appointment into the U.S. Military Academy West Point, the student said in the newsletter.

Cole said he’s honored Gjonaj took the time to nominate him, and he’s humbled to receive this recognition, the newsletter stated.
