LEMONT – The spring sports season has concluded and with it the school year. Now is the perfect time to take one more look at the best moments from the spring sports season for Lemont High School.

1. History makers

The baseball team made history this spring by winning the first state title in program history as well as the first championship by a boys squad at the school. The Indians did so in stunning fashion, as Ryan Folliard drove in two runs with a single in the bottom of the seventh after the Indians were down to their final out. The 2-1 victory over Sacred Heart-Griffin was Lemont's 35th of the season against only five losses.

2. State medals for track duo

A newcomer to track in the United States after moving in from Lithuania in the middle of the school year, Vika Marmaite quickly established quite a name for herself. The junior came in as the runner-up in the Class 3A triple jump after posting a mark of 39 feet, 7 inches.

Fellow classmate Jacque Desmond also notched all-state status after coming in sixth in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet.

3. Urban a smash hit at state tennis

Already the first tennis player in program history to finish among the top-32 singles players at the state tournament, Lemont's Nick Urban did himself one better this spring. The three-time state qualifier won four matches this time around, placing him among the best 24.

Urban lost just three times all season, against 25 victories, and now has 10 state tournament wins in his career. The doubles team of Nathaniel Burner and Joe Ziebell also qualified for the state meet and the duo picked up a victory.

4. Soccer success

While the Lemont girls soccer team didn't reach its ultimate goal of a state title, the Indians once again accomplished a lot of great things this spring. Along with another conference championship, the squad also won regional and sectional titles before falling 2-0 to Normal Community West in a Class 2A supersectional. Lemont finished 20-3-2 on the year.

5. All-state athletes

The success on the field this spring for Lemont sports led to accolades off the field for several athletes.

The state title baseball team saw Jake Latz, Mike Papierski and Mike Wisz earn all-state honors by the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Girls soccer players Kelly Fritz and Kim Jerantowski earned all-state recognition from the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association while Aleksandra Mihailovic was an all-sectional selection by the coaches.

In softball, junior Rylie Jay was named to the Class 3A all-state team by softball coaches in the Illinois Coaches Association.
