HINSDALE – A "Text to 911" service was recently made available through the four largest mobile telephone providers, but the function is not yet available in Hinsdale, according to a news release from the Hinsdale Police Department.

Residents need to know that a text to a 911 dispatch center for the Hinsdale police or fire departments will receive a "bounce back message," which advises to call 911 because text is not available within the service area.

When "Text to 911" does become available, it should only be used in circumstance when someone is unable to make a phone call to the emergency line, the release stated.
