Published: Saturday, July 5, 2014 9:27 a.m. CDT

WHEATON – The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park, 1S151 S. Winfield Road, will host a presentation by author Richard S. Faulkner on his book "The School of Hard Knocks: Combat Leadership in the American Expeditionary Forces," according to a museum news release.

The 2012 book examines the selection and training process of American junior officers during the years before and during World War I, making the argument that shortfalls in the process contributed to the high death tolls during the time period. Faulkner was awarded the Society for Military History's Distinguished Book Award for Best Work in American Military History in 2013.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Admission and parking are complimentary. A book signing will follow the presentation, with copies of the book available for purchase at the Cantigny Shop.
