ELMHURST – A Timothy Christian student created a chess puzzle that was recently published in a national magazine.

Sam Fincher, 11, created a chess puzzle in the shape of a cross after learning about Pal Benko's puzzle shaped Christmas tree. Sam's puzzle, like Benko's, could only be solved one way.

After Fincher created the cross-shaped puzzle in which white is to move first and reach check-mate in two moves, Timothy Christian chess coach Dave Mattox submitted the puzzle to Chess Life for Kids.

The magazine, published by the United States Chess Foundation published Sam's puzzle in its June issue.
