Lightning suspected as cause of Woodstock fire

WOODSTOCK – A fire at a vacant home Sunday morning was likely the result of a lightning strike, fire officials said.

Woodstock Fire Rescue received the call at 1:07 a.m. for a smell of smoke in the area. When they arrived, firefighters found the attic of the one-story home at 147 S. Hill St. was on fire, Woodstock Fire Capt. Brendan Parker said.

The blaze was out within 15 minutes.

The home was not on the market and appeared to have been vacant for an extended period of time, Parker said. It suffered significant damage but wasn't considered a total loss, he said.

The Lakewood fire department assisted at the scene of the fire. Crews from Huntley and Crystal Lake covered for Woodstock while firefighters worked.

Officials remained on scene for about two hours, Parker said.
