LAS VEGAS – John Shurna is trying to keep his NBA dream alive by competing for the Toronto Raptors summer team.

On Friday as part of the Samsung NBA Summer League 2014, the former Glenbard West standout and Northwestern graduate scored a team-high 21 points in an 88-78 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. Shurna shot 6-of-9 from the field and made five 3-pointers. He also added three rebounds and three steals in 24 minutes of action.

A day later, the forward knocked down a pair of trifectas on his way to eight points against the Denver Nuggets. Shurna also scored eight points against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday.

Shurna played for the Milwaukee Bucks summer league team in 2013 and for the Atlanta Hawks summer league squad in 2012. He was signed by the New York Knicks in the 2012 preseason but did not make the final roster.

Last season, he was a member of FIATC Joventut Badalona in Spain's Liga Endesa, the top professional league in the country. Appearing in 34 games, Shurna averaged 11.7 points per contest, shooting 38 percent from the 3-point arc and 82 percent from the free throw line.
