GENEVA – A performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is planned this weekend as part of Geneva’s eighth annual Shakespeare in the Park, according to a city news release.

Seating at Island Park begins at 5 p.m. Saturday. Patrons can bring blankets, chairs and a picnic dinner.

Food also will be available to buy from Stockholm’s and Graham’s Fine Chocolates and Ice Cream.

Circa will have Shakespeare merchandise for sale, and the Geneva Public Library staff will roam the festival with a photo opportunity.

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own cameras.

Activities begin 6 p.m. with a pre-show performance by the State Street Dance Studio dancers.

The Midsummer Theatre Troupe will explore themes of love, dreams and magic with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Condensed to 90 minutes, the play features slapstick humor and physical gags that are appropriate for all ages.

The story focuses on two sets of young lovers and an amateur theater troupe.

Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested.

Island Park is at the corner of State Street and Route 25 in Geneva. Free parking is available at the Kane County Government Center, 719 Batavia Ave.

Shakespeare in the Park is sponsored by the city of Geneva’s Cultural Arts Commission.
