ELMHURST – The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced July 14 about 1,600 additional winners, including two Elmhurst students, of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.

Simone Alexandrova, who attends Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, received a National Merit University of Houston Scholarship. She plans to study chemical engineering.

Eric J. Patterson, a York High School student, received a National Merit Brandeis University Scholarship. He plans to study public policy.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship, according to a news release.
