DOWNERS GROVE – Erik Swenson has been on the radar of football coaches and scouts since he was a freshman starting for Downers Grove South in 2012.

The junior offensive lineman, who made a verbal commitment in November to continue his career at the University of Michigan when he graduates, earned a big accolade on Wednesday when he was named to the Preseason Junior All-America Team by MaxPreps.com.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Swenson was one of 15 players named to the first-team offense and was the only player from Illinois to land on the list.

Swenson was also a member of the sophomore All-America team named by MaxPreps last fall and was the only player from Illinois to make that list.
