Players and coaches from Westmont Youth Baseball Association's 13-year old Babe Ruth All-Star team celebrate after winning the Northern Illinois state tournament on July 20. The squad went on to compete at the Ohio Valley Region Babe Ruth tournament over the weekend.

Thanks to the solid pitching of Michael Kokoszka and a powerful offense, Westmont Youth Baseball Association's 13-year old Babe Ruth All-Stars won the Northern Illinois state tournament on July 20 at Sedgwick Park in La Grange.

Kokoszka was the winning pitcher in the 8-1 win against Western Conference in the championship game. The only run he allowed scored on a passed ball.

Westmont flexed its offensive muscle throughout the tourney, defeating Lansing 17-7 and Hegewisch 12-0 to make it to the championship game.

With the tournament win in La Grange, Westmont went on to the Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Region tournament, which began on July 24. The squad went 3-0 in pool play, outscoring opponents 44-27.

Westmont then won 7-0 against Hancock County in bracket play before suffering an 11-2 loss to Janesville (Wisc.) in the semifinals that ended its successful tournament run. Janesville went on to win the championship.
