Incident at Naval Station Great Lakes

At approximately 11 p.m. CST on July 31, Naval Station Great Lakes officials reported a gate runner through the Main Gate.

A civilian suspect driving a black Toyota Camry, evading Lake Bluff police drove past the main gate at a high rate of speed. Navy Security Forces joined pursuit assisted by officers from the Lake Bluff Police Department. Four small arms shots were fired at the vehicle by Navy Security in an unsuccessful attempt to disable the vehicle. Two Navy Security Force vehicles were successfully used as a blockade, and the suspect collided with the two vehicles. The suspect, injured during the crash, was treated by the Great Lakes Fire Department on scene. The suspect was transported to Lake Forest Hospital in police custody for further evaluation.

There have been no reports of additional personnel injuries.
