Letter: Durbin, Madigan and tax avoidance

Published: Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 5:47 p.m. CDT

To the editor:

As Sen. Durbin rails against businesses who are deserting America to avoid high taxes, one can only think about who has driven them to such a drastic measure. The ruling political class in Illinois, indeed America, has branded certain companies as unpatriotic and deserters for their decision to relocate due to the crushing weight of ever-increasing corporate taxes.

It's curious that Sen. Durbin doesn't also attack Speaker Madigan and his law firm, which is in the business of helping big business customers and downtown building owners to avoid the crush of high taxes. Gov. Quinn has launched a smear ad condemning his gubernatorial opponent of not paying his fair share but never mentions Speaker Madigan and his law firm and the millions of tax dollars avoided by his clients.

It seems to me that it's time to invert the current political bunch ... nah, let's just go in the opposite direction.
