BOLINGBROOK – Women in Business, a networking group of local business women, will honor the general manager of Gordon Biersch Brewery & Restaurant at its August luncheon.

Kristine Ryan will receive a Community Leadership Award on Thursday from the group, which is affiliated with the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ryan has worked in the hospitality industry for 17 years. Under her leadership, Gordon Biersch has received many accolades, including the Best of Bolingbrook Business Award in 2011 and the Favorite Food awards at the Brew Pub Microbrewery Shootout in Chicago in 2008, 2009 and 2011, according to a release.

Ryan, a retired Air Force staff sergeant, also has an extensive resume of volunteer work with a number of area nonprofits, including Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation, Citizens Against Abuse, Heart Haven Outreach, St. Dominic Parish and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. She also is the co-chair of the annual Taste of Bolingbrook event.

She will be honored for her commitment to the Women in Business group’s four pillars: personal development, professional  development, community service and building strategic relationships.

Women in Business meets every other month. The group has about 200 members, with about 70-plus turning out for meetings and luncheons, according to Jennifer Navarro, manager of member services and events for the Bolingbrook Chamber.

“[Women in Business events] are about as well-attended as the regular chamber luncheons,” Navarro said.

The group, which is sponsored by Randall Studio Photography (John and Christine Randall) and Biologie Boutique (Deborah Paine), was formed about two and a half years ago with an eye on giving local business women a way to educate and network together, Navarro added.

Business in Women also takes on service projects each year. Last year, the group aided Toys for Tots and Tools for Schools, among others. At the Aug. 14 luncheon, members will bring nonperishable food items to benefit the food pantry at Power Connection.

Those interested in attending the Aug. 14 luncheon, which will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ashbury’s at Boughton Ridge, do not need to be Bolingbrook Chamber members, Navarro said.

The cost is $25 for chamber members and $35 for nonmembers. To register, visit shawurl.com/1brr or call 630-226-8420. Walk-ins also are welcome.
