LISLE — According to Lisle girls soccer coach Paul Kohorn, his varsity players escaped the recent severe flooding in town relatively unscathed.

The same couldn’t be said of the Lions when they played Francis Parker Saturday as part of the Timothy Christian tournament. Lisle lost 4-1.

“We did not play very well,” Kohorn said. “It was our first time on a field in four days and everybody was sick, and that’s no exaggeration. We had no energy and Parker did whatever they wanted to do. They ran all over us. But there are no excuses. We stunk it up. It was our worst game of the year.”

Saturday was the first full game the Lions (9-4) played since losing starter Sarah Mogensen for the rest of the season due to a broken leg suffered in a 7-0 win over Reed-Custer April 16. Elena Pivek, returning from her own injury, took Mogensen’s spot in the starting lineup. After falling behind 3-0 in the first half, Lisle played even with Francis Parker in the second half with Angie Ngo netting the goal.

“For a girl who’s never really been on varsity before, she’s having a really good year,” Kohorn said. “I’m happy for her. She’s been working really hard.”

The Lions were scheduled to play five games this week, including a Friday game against rival Westmont, but after Saturday’s showing, Kohorn was looking forward to Wednesday’s practice day the most.

“We haven’t had a real practice in two-and-a-half weeks, and it showed on Saturday,” Kohorn said. “I can’t wait for Wednesday.”
