U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth, far left, and Lombard Village President-elect Keith Giagnorio second from left, visit with residents and flood victims on Sunday.

LOMBARD — U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth toured Lombard on Sunday to assess the flood damage for residents the 8th Congressional District that she represents. She joined Keith Giagnorio, village president-elect, Dave Hulseberg, village manager, and officials from DuPage County to travel throughout the village and view the storm damage.

To help residents whose homes have suffered severe storm damage, the Village of Lombard's Building Division is issuing express permits for any construction projects related to flood damage.

The express permit procedure usually takes about 15 minutes as long as the contractor requesting the permit is registered with the village and provides basic information about the building project. These permit applications will be reviewed and issued on the spot.

Permits are required for replacing wet or damaged electric panels, water heaters and furnaces. Residents who need to replace drywall, flooring, doors and other finish materials do not need permits.

The village also temporarily suspended its restrictions of cargo containers or pods on residential property to help residents clean up their homes.

Lombardians living in York Township also can apply for the storm damage assessment program that provides relief for homeowners who have experienced enough flood damage to potentially affect their property values.

The township can offer assessment relief for losses of finished lower levels, damaged foundations, drywall damages and more.

An application is available online at yorkassessor.com.
