ELMHURST – An Elmhurst woman was cited for having a dog at large after her Labrador/Boxer mix attacked an unidentified woman and her dog on Sunday, police said.

Elmhurst police responded to a call from a woman screaming in distress in the 400 block of Ridgeland Avenue at 10:31 a.m. that day.

Elmhurst Police Deputy Chief Jim Kventon said the victim was walking her dog, a Chow mix, on a leash when the Lab mix attacked it.

The victim suffered extensive injuries to both of her hands after she attempted to stop the dog fight. Following the attack, the victim underwent surgery, police said.

The Chow mix also underwent surgery at an area animal hospital.

DuPage County Animal Control will follow up on the incident, according to police reports.
