LOMBARD – After a difficult, frustrating and disappointing start in the DuPage Valley Conference, Glenbard East baseball finally has a series win.

The Rams took two out of three against Naperville North to halt the conference season struggles. East had lost nine of its first 10 DVC games before taking the last two against the Huskies.

East lost Game 1, 11-10, on Friday in Naperville in what might have felt like rock bottom. The Rams led 9-3 after five innings and 10-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh, but gave up four in that frame and lost in the eighth inning on an error.

Yoanny Gonzalez’s 3-for-4, three-RBI day went to waste in the loss. D.J. Spears, Joe Kotch and Tyler Behrendt also had multi-hit games.

Coming off the shocking comeback in that game, East turned to its ace, Nick Vichio, and he delivered. Vichio fired a three-hit shutout and went just four batters over the minimum.

Vichio helped his own cause with an RBI and Behrendt collected another two-hit day.

In the rubber game, Vichio hit a solo home run in the first inning and Greg Ludwig drilled a three-run shot in the fourth. That was all the offense East would need because D.J. Spears limited the Huskies to three runs over seven innings in the 4-3 win.

The Rams final three DVC series are against West Chicago, Wheaton Warrenville South and West Aurora. This weekend’s series against West Chicago could be another lift for East.
