Lombard postpones Great Western Trail bridge opening

Published: Wednesday, May 8, 2013 6:00 a.m. CDT

LOMBARD – The Village of Lombard announced this week that the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Great Western Trail bridge, originally scheduled for May 25, has been postponed and rescheduled for Aug. 6.

Village engineers said in a news release that the reason for the delay is because the recent rain and flooding in Lombard and other towns has prevented the project from being completed on schedule.

"It's unfortunate that we need to reschedule, but necessary to ensure a safe event," said Paul Kuehnlenz, project manager and civil engineer for the village.

The Aug. 6 opening ceremony will coincide with the village's annual National Night Out event, which is held near the bridge sites at the Lombard Common Park.

The village will provide more details as they become available.
