Liberty Elementary locked down after man tries entering school after hours

BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook's Liberty Elementary School was on a full lockdown Wednesday after staff observed a man trying to open several doors and enter the school, according to the Bolingbrook Police Department.

Classes had already been released when the incident unfolded.

The lockdown was successful and prevented the man from entering the building, police said.

About 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, Bolingbrook police apprehended and detained the subject – a 40-year-old Lockport man, according to Lt. Mike Rompa. Authorities determined he was unarmed and suffered from a medical condition, Rompa said.

He was immediately transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital for evaluation and his vehicle was towed for investigative purposes, according to police.

Bolingbrook Police Investigations Division then located the subject's roommate and were able to check the Lockport residence for additional information, which yielded negative results other than further details on the subject's medical condition, Rompa said.

The incident will remain under investigation.
