LYONS

Man drives car into fire hydrant in suicide attempt

A Lombard man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after driving his car into a fire hydrant near Ogden and Leland Avenues at 5:57 p.m. July 9. The man told police he had taken multiple prescription medications and that he drove his car off the road in an attempt to commit suicide.

Possession of cannabis

Bryson Benson, 19, of the 6700 block of Brainard Avenue, Countryside, was cited for possession of cannabis and possession of alcohol by a minor after police found him smoking marijuana in a parked car in the 4100 block of Amelia Avenue at 11:13 p.m. July 5.

Intoxicated man shoots firework at window

Keith Bryson, 23, of the 7300 block of West Oakwood Avenue, was charged with unlawful possession of fireworks and reckless conduct after throwing a large firework at the window of his neighbor’s house July 4. Bryson told police he lit the firework near the window because it was the Fourth of July. Bryson, who appeared highly intoxicated, was unapologetic and said he did nothing, because it was the Fourth of July.

BROOKFIELD

Car, thousands in cash and materials stolen

A 1999 Lexus, between six and eight 60-foot rolls of copper tubing valued at $60 a foot and other tools and materials were stolen from a plumbing shop in the 9400 block of 47th Street late July 8 or early July 9. Police determined that a vehicle was used to push the garage door open slightly so someone could enter and open the east-side door. The vehicle belonged to the shop and had keys in it. Also missing was $2,500 in cash, along with two antique $100 bills. State Police were contacted to process the scene.

DUI

Brian J. Ienco, 39, of the 8000 block of Thomas Road, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle rear-ended another car at Ogden and Prairie Avenues at 9:42 p.m. July 11. Ienco told police he had consumed four beers at a local bar before failing several field sobriety tests. His court hearing is Aug. 13 in Maywood.

Public indecency and disorderly conduct

Marcelo Mata, 22, of the 9000 block of Sheridan Road, was charged with public indecency and disorderly conduct after allegedly following a woman from a convenience store parking lot in the 9100 block of Broadway Avenue to the parking lot of a nearby bar. Mata allegedly drove his vehicle up to the woman and exposed himself to her. The woman identified Mata from a lineup of potential suspects. He was released after posting $1,500 bail and has a court date of Aug. 27. The incident occurred at 6:45 p.m. July 9.

School laptops found in bushes

A man walking his dog found six laptop computers under a tree and bush in the 9000 block of Southview Avenue at 5:42 a.m. July 14. One of the laptops had a sticker identifying it as La Grange School District 102 property. Tom Akerman, the district’s director of facilities, said the laptops were stolen from a district school.

Tree care employees show up unannounced

A woman called police after she found employees from a tree care service trimming two trees in her yard at 7:41 a.m. July 10. The woman said she got a quote from the business in June but never signed a contract to have it go ahead with the work. One of the employees apologized and left with his crew.

American flag stolen off porch

An American flag was stolen off the front porch of a house in the 4200 block of Deyo Avenue between 10:30 p.m. July 10 and 3:15 p.m. July 11, a resident at the house reported.

Graffiti found in women’s restroom at Ehlert Park

A village public works employee found graffiti on two walls in the women’s restroom at Ehlert Park at 10:21 a.m. July 10. The graffiti was removed with cleaner.

RIVERSIDE

DUI

• Gilberto Olivares, 58, of Bolingbrook, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled him over in the 2900 block of Harlem Avenue. A witness told police that Olivares had struck a bicyclist on Harlem Avenue. A breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol concentration to be .147.

• Carmen P. Perez, 38, of Bridgeview, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 5:32 a.m. July 14 after police pulled her over for speeding at Harlem Avenue and Pershing Drive. Perez failed several field sobriety tests, and a breathalyzer test showed her blood alcohol concentration to be .103.

• Alexander Fowles, 37, of Oak Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police pulled him over for speeding at Ogden and Joliet Avenues at 6:14 p.m. July 14. Fowles failed several field sobriety tests, and a portable breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol concentration to be .21.

Disorderly conduct

Tawana L. Jackson, 36, of West Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct after an incident with family members at a residence in the 2800 block of Harlem Avenue at 8:53 p.m. July 11.

Exhaust fan vandalized at St. Mary School

The metal covering for an exhaust fan at St. Mary’s School, 97 Herrick Road, was found smashed in at 7:17 a.m. July 12.
