Published: Friday, July 26, 2013 3:24 p.m. CDT

VILLA PARK – Villa Park will join thousands of communities around the country to celebrate the 30th Annual Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out will be from 6:30 to 9 :30 p.m. Aug. 6. The campaign is designed to heighten awareness for crime and drug prevention, generate support for local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and tell criminals that neighborhoods are ready to fight back

In Villa Park, residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on their outdoor lights and enjoy the outside air with their neighbors and police. Special events will be hosted throughout Villa Park, including block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police and local officials, anticrime rallies and more.

The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the Villa Park Police Department and the Villa Park Target. Last year's national event involved more than 37 million people in 15,704 communities.
