BROOKFIELD – The 17-18 All Stars from La Grange Babe Ruth Baseball finished second in the state in a tournament played at Brookfield's Ehlert Park.

La Grange was 3-2 in the double-elimination tournament, with both losses coming to eventual champ Lansing. Because it finished second in state, La Grange qualified for the Babe Ruth regional, but could not play due to other commitments from a large number of the players.

La Grange opened the state tournament with a 5-1 win over Westmont, and then lost 7-4 to Lansing. Late-inning heroics from Mike Parrella helped La Grange come back from 4-3 down in the seventh inning against Westmont. Parrella hit a go-ahead home run with two outs to help send La Grange to the championship game.

La Grange wound up beating Westmont 9-4 to set the stage for a rematch with Lansing. La Grange had to beat Lansing twice that day to win state, but ran out of gas, losing 14-3.

Pitchers Zach Carlson, Ted Cook, Tom Brannen, Doug Miller and Brian Simon contributed along with solid catcher Henry Cook.
