Police report string of air conditioner thefts

Published: Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 7:48 a.m. CDT

RIVERSIDE – The Riverside Police Department issued an alert Aug. 14 to bring resident's attention to the continued theft of large commercial air conditioning units in the village. According to police, two more air conditioner thefts were reported within 24 hours prior to the release. The two thefts took place in the 200 and 300 blocks of Burlington Avenue.

Police said the units are generally stolen at night. At times, the entire unit is removed, but some units have been damaged and had the copper tubing removed. As the units are heavy, Riverside police investigators believe there are at least two individuals working together with a truck or SUV.

Riverside residents are encouraged to call the police to report any suspicious noise or vehicles, especially around commercial buildings, apartment buildings and condominium complexes.
