BURR RIDGE – Police charged a Burr Ridge man Tuesday for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition when they discovered his friend was accidentally shot in the stomach.

Mark H. Reinesto, 57, 7604 Drew Ave., was charged after police discovered he was without a firearm owner's identification (FOID) card.

At about 11:36 p.m., Burr Ridge police officers responded to Reinesto's home to investigate a report of a man who suffered a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found a 56-year-old Willow Springs resident, a friend of Reinesto, with a bullet wound to his abdomen.

The man said he and Reinesto were looking at a loaded antique gun in Reinesto's home when he dropped it and the gun went off striking him in the stomach.

The victim was taken to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital where he was awaiting surgery.

Reinesto was processed at the Burr Ridge Police Station and released on an individual recognizance bond at about 3:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Unlawful possession of a firearm without a FOID card and unlawful possession of ammunition without a FOID card are both Class A misdemeanors, punishable up to a year in prison and up to a $2,500 fine, according to a news release.
