ADDISON – Route 53 projects will continue through the Christmas shopping season near Centennial Plaza, the village of Addison announced recently.

Following the installation of a storm sewer system that runs from the southwest corner of the Route 53 and Route 20 intersection to I-355, staging the intersection could take another 16 weeks.

Concrete paving on Route 53 from the I-355 overpass south to Addison Park District facilities was scheduled to begin last week, but the village of Addison gave permission to the contractor to wait until Wednesday to begin, due to the recent heat.

The work may close the north entrance to the shopping center for a week or two. Traffic signal times at the south mall entrance are being monitored to maintain traffic flow in and out of the shopping center. Once the north entrance construction is complete, work on the south entrance will start.

The contractor estimates that work at the Army Trail Road and Route 53 intersection could take several more weeks.

Street light bases have been installed on the east and west side of Route 53. Sidewalk placement has also begun on the west side of the street.

The widening and reconstruction of Route 53 extends from Army Trail Road north to the Elgin O'Hare Expressway. The entire project should be completed by the end of the year.
