LT literary magazine receives national award

LA GRANGE – The literary magazine produced by Lyons Township High School students has been ranked in the top 10 percent of literary magazines in the country.

The 2013 publication of Menagerie was recently named a gold medalist by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The magazine, which received 956 points out of a possible 1,000, received All-Columbian honors in organization, content and design.

The judge who evaluated Menagerie commented on the poetry in the magazine and said, "It contains sharp imagery and conveys believable ideas and emotions."

About the artwork in the magazine, the judge said, "Menagerie's overall visual impact is striking and uncluttered. The art chosen for publication reflects excellent editorial judgment." 

Menagerie sponsors include literary advisors Joseph Maffey and Angela Gutierrez, along with art advisor Mary Rohlicek.
