Police: Trespassers try to climb onto roof of Hinsdale Central High School

Published: Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 2:26 p.m. CDT

HINSDALE – Two men with cloth facial coverings were observed attempting to climb on the roof of Hinsdale Central High School using the fence surrounding the dumpsters in the loading dock area at about 10:45 a.m. Friday.

The men were nearly on the roof when two members of the Building and Grounds Department thwarted their attempt, according to a letter sent to parents of Hinsdale Central students.

The trespassers then jumped down and ran across Grant Street, disappearing into the neighborhood directly to the east. Members of the Hinsdale Police Department spoke to residents immediately to the east, but they were not able to apprehend or identify the pair.

Deputy Chief Mark Wodka confirmed the incident, but said there was no further information at this time regarding suspects or leads.

"At this time, we're unable to determine or differentiate whether this was a criminal act or essentially believed to be a prank," Wodka said. "But what we do know is that they trespassed to the building in an area they were not allowed to be."

On Monday, the police department had additional patrols at Hinsdale Central.
