Bensenville police shoot man who allegedly drew gun

BENSENVILLE – A man was shot multiple times by Bensenville police at about 6 p.m. on Friday, according to a police department news release.

Two Bensenville police officers responded to a report that a 24-year-old man had violated an order of protection in the 700 block of North Illinois Route 83, the release stated. Police found the man walking from the location and pursued him on foot after he pointed a handgun at the officers and it misfired, according to the release.

An officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire in the 1000 block of Tower Lane, and the suspect was hit multiple times, according to the release. He was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

The officers were not injured in the incident, and their identities are not being released at this time.

The name of the offender is not yet available, pending a positive identification.

The incident is currently under investigation by the DuPage County Major Crime Task Force.
