The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a New Year's Eve winter weather advisory for counties around the Chicago area, including Cook, DuPage and Will counties.

The weather advisory begins at 4 p.m. this afternoon and continues through 10 a.m. New Year's Day, with a chance of accumulating snow into the afternoon in the southwest suburbs, according to the NWS website. Snowfall is estimated to be three to six inches in DuPage and Will counties.

The National Weather Service also warned of possible lake effect snow in Cook late Wednesday night into Thursday with possible localized accumulations in excess of six inches.

In all counties under winter weather advisory, the NWS warns that there will be limited visibility and snow-covered roads for drivers and advises caution.
