Apollonio Anaya, 17, of the 3800 block of Wenonah Avenue was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm by Berwyn police in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 3800 block of Home Avenue Feb. 11.

BERWYN – A 17-year-old Berwyn youth was charged as an adult in connection with a gang-related shooting of a 16-year-old male from Justice that occurred in an alley of the 3800 block of Home and Wenonah avenues Feb. 11.

Police were called to the area at about 2:30 p.m. to investigate a report of shots fired. The victim, who according to police is a member of the Satan Disciples street gang, was walking down the alley with a 19-year-old man when they ran into Apollonio Anaya, 17, of the 3800 block of Wenonah Avenue, near Anaya's garage.

Anaya, a member of the Imperial Gangsters and formerly a member of the Satan Disciples, and the other two men got into an argument, police said. Anaya pulled out a gun and started shooting, striking the victim once in the right leg. The victim was treated at Loyola University Medical Center, police said.

The victim and his companion fled and sought assistance. Both later identified Anaya in a photo lineup.

Police said Anaya was eventually arrested at his home.

Anaya was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, but police said the charges could be upgraded.
