DOWNERS GROVE – Downers Grove firefighters closed the intersection of 55th Street and Florence Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to fight a house fire.

Downers Grove Fire Department Spokeswoman Marsha Giesler said no one was home during the fire and no one was injured.

A damage estimate was not yet available, but she said the home would likely be suitable for occupancy today.

The village asked residents to avoid the intersection during the fire.

About 11:10 a.m., Giesler said the fire was out and she had just left the scene. She added that fire department companies were also being released from the scene, but it was unclear when the intersection would be reopened.
